I'd always have a pencil and paper ready and, if I really had an idea, I'd sit down at a bench and I'd start scribbling away.  Andrew J. Wiles, Mathematician

Riddles

by

Each of the second grade math enrichment students  picked a different number of red,, yellow, blue,, and green square tiles.  Each student then wrote a riddle to help the others figure out how many of each color tile (s)he had.  The riddles are listed below and require some mathematical and logical thinking to figure out.  See if you can guess how many tiles there are after reading each clue. By the time you get to the last clue you’ll have enough information to determine how many of each color tile the student has.

If you get stuck check out the solutions.

Well, some mathematics problems look simple, and you try them for a year or so, and then you try them for a hundred years, and it turns out that they're extremely hard to solve.  Andrew J. Wiles, Mathematician
